Great Golf Media bring you the "TOP 5 SOUTH OF ENGLAND COURSES" to add to your must play list for 2016. We have selected locations that give the golfer a varied selection, from heathland, dramatic coastline, rolling countryside and city skyline.
St Enodoc
St Enodoc was designed by James Braid. Located on the North Cornwall coast, it overlooks the Camel Estuary, with Padstow on the far side and to the North, the Atlantic. The location on the high sand dunes is ideal for golf combined with the stunning sea views. St Enodoc consists of two courses; the Church course is a James Braid designed Championship course which has hosted the English County Finals and the English Women's Amateur Championship. The Holywell course is shorter but by no means less impressive and perfect for those wanting slightly less of a challenge.
Chart hills Golf Club
Designed by Sir Nick Faldo in 1993 and located in High Weald of Kent, Chart Hills is an award winning course which included in the Rolex Top 1000 courses of the world. With 138 bunkers, fast greens and a compliment of 18 holes each with their own personal characteristics and challenges, there is enough to challenge all levels of golfers. Part of the Leaderboard group, it compliments its sister course dale Hill which is located only a short distance away.
The Manor House Castle Combe
Situated in the stunning Cotswold countryside in the valley of Castle Combe, this undulating landscape provides a great round for any level of golfer. Designed by the renowned BBC commentator Peter Alliss along with his design partner Clive Clarke in 1992, it is now widely regarded as one of the finest golf courses in the South West of England. The course enjoys quiet, uninterrupted views across its 200 acres of parkland course, complete with mature Oak trees, lakes, and the River Bybrook which winds its way through the landscape.
The Addington Golf Club
Playing the Addington you would not believe that you are a mere thirteen miles from the centre of London Designed in 1912 by John Frederick Abercromby, who has been accredited with being 'one of the finest architects in all of golf, The Addington is a gem of a golf course. It works its way through mature trees which give it a real feeling of intimacy, yet the views of the nearby city are ever present. The mast at Crystal Palace looms in the foreground, while the NatWest Tower, Canary Wharf and the 'Shard' provide a marvellous contrast to the rich woodland and undulating fairways.
Walton Heath Golf Club
Located near Walton-on-the-Hill in Surrey, the club comprises two 18-hole golf Championship courses, the Old Course and the New Course. Set within the stunning Surrey countryside and well known for their heathland landscape, these course are both a joy and a challenge to any golfer. Walton Heath was originally laid out by W Herbert Fowler and opened in 1904 with an exhibition match between golf legends Harry Varden. JH Taylor and James Braid who was the also club professional, a job that he held until his death in 1950.
