£286 million to Scottish economy each year from Golf TourismPosted:
A survey commissioned by VisitScotland and Scottish Enterprise, has showed that Golf Tourism contributes £286 million to the economy each year.
This is an increase by £66 million (30%) since 2008, and supports a total of 4,700 jobs.The average spend per night by overseas golfers is £338 which is more than four times the daily spend of a regular tourist.
The report also found that 57%, of overseas visitors, had been to Scotland before, which suggests that visiting Scotland is not seen as a once in a lifetime experience for them.
Scotland is known as the "Home of Golf" and has for a long time recognised the importance of this element in tourism their tourism strategy, something that other regions of the UK are slow to, or have yet to realise.
